Brilliant Highlights (0.31b) - File Description

NOTE: This file has become outdated and there's a newer / better version available.
You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!

Description:
This is a modified shader for Doom 3 and RoE that gives high quality dynamic highlights and enhances the 3D look of the surfaces. Any hardware capable of the ARB 2.0 path can run this mod. Regarding performance, it favours math power over memory bandwidth as this is the current trend.

-------------
Features:
-------------

:: Dynamic highlights ::
Using the original specular mapping from the game, my shader adjusts the highlight falloff separately per pixel.

:: Highlight masking ::
Like in the built-in shader, the specular map is also used to mask the highlights from less shiny surfaces.

A Quake 4 version of this mod is available at Quake 4 Files.

Ver 0.31b

###

So how do I install?
--------------------

Extract the package to your doom3 folder and 'Dynamic highlights' mod will appear to the doom 3's mods menu. For RoE, you need to put the file z_bhmod.pk4 into the doom3/d3xp folder. The mod will then be automatically (and allways) enabled for RoE.

Bugs?
-----

Sometimes you might see yellow or green objects that are not supposed to look that way. Very rare tough. Just keep in mind, this is a beta release, it has been only tested in a number of levels.

What else?
----------

For the more tweaker in heart; you can adjust the minimum and maximum power and the minimum mask within the shader. The comments describe how.

Feedback?
---------

Sure; mail me at maha_x AT hotmail.com

Disclaimer?
-----------

See Doom 3 eula. Also, if you want to use my mod, ask. Not that I wanted to say no, just that I know. And credit me where required.

* The included comparison pictures have bhmod enabled on the left and disabled on the right.

That actually looks really good.
It doesn't really shot up much difference on that wall socket thing (But it's so small no one would care) but the floors and everything look a lo cleaner.
Does it slow down gameplay?

Well on my 6800GT the performance drop wasn't too bad at all, you'd need high res to pull it down. I play at 1280x720 4xAA and there was no noticable difference with or without the mod.

Mayby I'll put up some performance tests if I get around to...

What's denton's mod?

Ok, I checked out this Denton's SDK-based enhancements, Seems like it would work (didn't test). Just drop the z_bhmod.pk4 to denton's folder.

Those screenshots show that this little file definitely improves the game's appearance. I hereby request permission to include this pack in my mod which I will upload quite soon. I make it a point to credit everyone who made content I include in my mods.

This is pretty nice. It adds more depth into the scenery, makes the textures a little more detailed, and there's no fps killing.

That's the most straight forward method. If you play online you should make a separate folder cos online servers dont (usually) allow mods.
