Good build up of action and just enough ammo to get the job done. The frame rate really drops in some areas though. Kinda reminds me of my maps. |

Valerius Joined: November 8th, 2005 Posts: 85 | I don't think most people mod with the hope of finding employment. The levels don't look too bad at all. The outdoor segment depicted in the third screenshot does look quite nice, but I suspect that is one of the areas where the framerate would suffer.
The maps look decent from the images. The problem with the framerate does make me somewhat wary of downloading this, as my computer is not exactly "high-end" (although it does what I want it to do well enough). For me, the areas with low framerate would probably look like a slideshow on slow settings.
I salute the creator of these maps for a good first attempt, and I hope that he can solve the framerate issues soon. I do thank him for the caveat, at least to warn one before. |

personly i wouldnt downlaod this map, its not bad but it looks like an ordanary doom map which i have seen plently of. |
MartianBuddy From: (bankhead) Joined: January 11th, 2005 Posts: 268 | well i like this map and i thought it was ok for a first map. i think there was lag in some parts because there would be to much stuff all at once, like 20 zombies in a big room with stuff in it. |

This is a nice addition to my collection of user made alternatives.
Also to the author, disregard any comments about frame-rate issues. Anyone who honestly appreciates Doom3 already has the appropriate hardware to run it worry free. I myself experienced flawless gameplay with this download, and would have been happy with more of it. |

Ice_Trey From: Joined: February 15th, 2005 Posts: 771 | then im impressed !! These 4 maps is cool, someone said somewhere that he wouldnt bother with this cuss it reminded him of just about any other map, big mistake dude!! This is very oldschool doom, long undeground tunnels and corridors, with a very oldschool finale, and i enjoyed every sec of it! I didnt really notice any of those lag issues that some states, maybe they should just get Diskepper
Dont pass on this if you like old doom, thats all i can say ! 10/10
The only snag i can see is that i didnt see any shottie, maybe i just missed out on one that was laying around..? |

WHairston Joined: October 24th, 2005 Posts: 241 | Finally got around to playing this map, and I'm sorry I waited so long. While the creator is right (lagging framerate in some areas), the action and playability more than makes up for it. And yes, this is a Doom 3 map - some areas are WAY too dark! Let's just hope that the author continues to improve with his future maps, because any improvement on this type of quality will only result in something truly awesome.
Dark Revelation is actually about 4 different maps, each with its own atmosphere. If you liked the run-and-gun styles of Doom 1 and Doom 2, you'll quickly recognize the style of play here. Long, maze-like corridors, plenty of ammo, and the feeling that you just KNOW there's something lurking behind the next corner all combine to make this map a fun experience. A base level provides the usual warmup of zombie target-practice, but just as you think you're getting started, you encounter a hell level that is the true masterpiece of this collection. You'll find a variety of enemies here, but spaced so that you are never overwhelmed. In old-school Doom fashion, there are ways to snipe at your enemies safely from select locations, but you'll need to think strategically. The underground section actually seems like a break when you encounter it, but you'll quickly forget about having time to rest once you encounter the final level's free-for-all melee that brings back memories of Doom 2's craziest end-scenes.
Good level design and thoughful placement of enemies - for a first map, Dark Revelation packs solid gameplay, lots of variety, and a respectful nod to the classic past of the Doom franchise. If future maps can address the framerate issues and add a little more health in strategic places, then we can expect some classics from this author in months to come. |
