wow, Dafama this mod is just... perfect !! The textures has been enchanced greatly, it's a really nice job.
Greetings!
To not help many in your upcomming mod, but i will fix it when i have a moment of inspiration, ok, wait a little more, i have some ideas...
- Lights that breaks, toggle or explode at any time in any level !
- At any time an object can fly or be quicked through the level with no apparent reason !
- New skins for Fat & Boney.
- New FX for all weapons, even increassed size of the particles.
- New Field of View, but keeping the weapons visible like always.
- Some monsters are ghosts or translucent at a certain distance, but they are opaque when closer.
- More features will be added soon...
Hey this looks great on my 8800GTX! Keep up the good work Dafama2K7!!
Heh. I like the idea that an entity is transparent at distance. Ingenious.
Or maybe can be monsters that have transparent skin and when they lose half they're health they will return to normal skin.
So Dafama,
I'm back (and you too ). I just wanted to say that I'm going to look close at the mod and tell you later on what I think of it.
The only thing is that you haven't got really much information in your Readme file. What do you have changed about the Shaders? What is the difference between the D3 textures and this enhanced textures? Maybe screen shots that will show the comparison are coming in handy!
Anyway you'll get my opinion when I'm done at looking to your mod in detail
,SolidSnakeNL
Hello there again Dafama,
I've taken a detailed look into this new Enhanced Textures Mod and I'm going to tell you what I like and dislike (yeah I know that I complain a lot )
The mod is organized very good. You have included the things we need. You have included the 3 shader files in the package (and your other shader project files) and some config files. And at last included in this mod the textures and models.
When putting the mod literally in my D3 base folder and having it started, I noticed that you have enabled AA 4x by yourself and that things like EAX and Surround are enabled by default. Also your game name (or whoever it's name might be) called DavidFM is included. The thing is that you locked the DoomConfig file and that changing this back to No AA and Stereo with EAX disabled (I have an XFi, but EAX in Doom 3 has too much reverb effects) has no effect. It doesn't bother me much, because I use my own tweaked config file, but for people who use your files will have these issues (not everybody has a ultra high end card like a 8800GTX)
I do have used your Autoexec config line to switch to the other shader, so don't worry about that.
Now looking at the graphics and enhancements itself I think that the Texture enhancement part is nothing special. You've only sharpened the Bump Map textures a bit (and models too) and you call that a texture enhancement. No! A texture enhancement is changing all textures to High Resolution versions of it. That's the only way to let Doom 3 coming more alive besides the Brilliant Highlights.
Now about the shaders. First I've tested the main shader (so not the nVidia shader). The first thing I noticed is that the shadow bug is still there on many places, so that's a part where you must work on. The switching between shaders is a very nice idea, but confusing, because on some places the other one looks better and then on another place the default one looks better. The answer was clear for me: The nVidia Shader solved it ALL. No shadow bugs, no confusing switching and the 'bloom' (heavy light in the shader) effect isn't there at all. The places where it must be dark are dark. The models looks much better (really nice shading) and Doom 3 looks less cheap with this nVidia shader. The nVidia shader only enhanced Doom 3 in a positive way with no bugs or side effects, so if you can make a BH shader like the nVidia shader for ALL cards (so not 2 separate versions for ATI and nVidia), then you would have the perfect BH shader! I don't know if this is possible and how experienced you are in this, but it is much appreciated in the Doom 3 graphic enhancements world
Keep up the good work Dafama and I keep an eye on your mods!
SolidSnakeNL
I will try to do that...
Also in my D3_intheDark mod there will be Poltergeis effects a lot !!!
@ SolidSnakeNL - Now looking at the graphics and enhancements itself I think that the Texture enhancement part is nothing special. You've only sharpened the Bump Map textures a bit (and models too) and you call that a texture enhancement. No!
- The texture bumpmaps i have used are from E3 Alpha, so are made by Id, and i think that this bumpmaps are far better (they look more real and more rusty) than the ones in the commercial official D3 vanilla version that look too plastic and toy !!!
Then it is really weird, because they really look sharpened and that's not really a compliment for ID Software I have the E3 demo too, but it doesn't work on nVidia cards anymore or am I wrong about that?
Also I am really convinced that the textures of Doom 3 aren't having a very High Resolution. The weapons are only 512x512 (some are even 256x256) and that's another reason why Doom 3 isn't always really sharp. The Brilliant Highlights (especially the nVidia one) really improved the quality of the whole game. When I walked into the toilets, I dropped my eyeballs. It now looks so beautiful and Doom 3 has a real metallic look that fits perfect in the world of Doom 3. Hopefully the game is going to get more creepy with better graphics, because I never was scared of Doom 3.
,SolidSnakeNL
please walk me through the install
@Zoogie45 - Just drag the mod's folder on the Doom 3 folder, run the game and go to mods menu and now select my mod from the list.
@SolidSnakeNL - First the E3 2002 demo runs & looks perfect on NVidia gfx cards, if you have problemes running it, remove or rename the Doomconfig.cfg and Autoexec.cfg files, ok.
I thing the sharpened bumpmaps looks more scary, because specially when there is low light, all is more rusty, more creepy and i don't like the bumpmaps Id software decided to put on final Doom 3 commercial version, they looks too plastic and toy now, said this i think that a real enhacement, it's true, will be to make the ressolution of every texture to at least 2048x2048 or better, but how to do that ?
I saw an old mod called 1024x Jumbo size monsters here...:
http://doom3.filefront.com/file/1024x1024_Jumbo_Size_Monster_Skins;48527
The author says...: This file increases the size of most monster skins to 1024 X 1024. The skins have only been increased in size, not modified in any other way. I encourage you to use this as a base for your own skins. You will LOVE the amount of detail possible.
How can this be done for any texture of the Doom 3 world ?
If i know how, i will do it...
This is an example of very good but exagerated sharpenned mod, but i like it, eh !
http://doom3.filefront.com/file/Detailed_Doom3;30650
How to double or at least increasse the ressolution of any D3, Q4 and Prey texture, i will try it now, at the moment i have convert to .TGA all the .DDS monsters and characters textures present in the 1024x Jumbo size monsters mod, so it can be used with image_usePreCompressedTextures "0" !
1024x1024 textures high res. for all D3 models and textures !
I'ts made, i am now testing every level because a very small amount of textures doesn't want to load, converted all D3 & Roe textures to 1024x1024 and without any sharpenning added, so i think this will meet the requeriments of SolidSnakeNL !
A good example of a mod that does very fantastic things with High Resolution textures is the FakeFactory Cinematic Mod v4 for Half-Life 2. The guy that makes this stuff has made his own (look a like) High Resolution textures, so that the game looks much and much better. You must not increase the resolution of the Doom 3 textures, because then it are still the same textures stretched over a bigger resolution. You must make your own textures (that looks exactly like those of Doom 3) and make them in a High Resolution. It's indeed a lot of work and you don't have to do it, I just gave an example of a real texture enhancement.
The bump maps of the E3 Demo indeed look a bit more rustier and better when a low light is falling in it. I'll have a look at it, because right now I'm busy with some Doom 3 enhancements too (like better weapon textures), but it is not easy since you have to change the skin, the bump map and some other stuff where I don't know much about yet, but if these E3 demo Bump Maps are better, then it is easier to use them and make a higher resolution of it.
Keep up the good work and I hope you'll discover some things about the Doom 3 textures. In the meantime I'm going to test the E3 Demo and hope that it works (I already played it a long time ago)
SolidSnakeNL (aka GK89)
I can't do another textures in high res. that looks like D3 ones, but i have already done increassing the ressolution of D3 textures and now i will do the same for Roe, i have testit and even it's not the same as it would be having a specially made new high res 2048x2048 textures, it looks better and are not sharppened but don't looks like plastic anymore, i like it, i will upload this when 100% done, but sure it's a good, the worst part is that i have needed to testit for every map because some small amount of textures don't get converted at all, but now all this is fixed.
LOL, I know you're not a paint artist, but I'm already looking forward to the Higher Resolution textures. I know it would look better then the D3 ones.
SolidSnakeNL
What you say on try to use that, if it would be legal, of course.
Many textures on this games are on higher ressolution, but are very similar or even the same.
I own thouse three games and now i will buy ET QW.
I tested the demo of Enemy Territory Quake Wars and it was a huge disappointment for me. The graphics aren't as good as I expected and the feeling is not very good. Some say it's a Battlefield ripp-off, but that's not true. The idea is fun, but I rather play the better Battlefield games then this.
Of course this is my opinion, but I expected a lot from this game and maybe that is where my problem lies. Too high expectations will result in a disappointment, because the game isn't made to be original, but to have fun. Not that I had fun playing it! Maybe if modders like you (Dafama) will mod the hell out of it, then there is a chance it is going to be fun
SolidSnakeNL
And at least in the demo i doesn't have been impressed as i spected, i like it, but i am a very BIG fun of UT2004 and i am also waiting years to get Unreal Tournament 3, i like it all from this, the A.I., the gfx, the sounds, the playability, i only wanted to say that also i want to have ETQW, but i want UT3 !
What i will have most fun is to make some mods for ETQW, but for playing an intense combat and playability i no doubt go for UT3 !
I totally agree with you. Unreal Tournament 3 is going to rock and we all know it. I can't wait to have the biggest fragging time in my life
I have tested the Doom 3 E3 Demo and I was forgotten how cool it was. I've tweaked a lot on this unstable 'demo', but now the graphics look acceptable and it works a lot better now. Is it just me or is this 'demo' a lot cooler then most parts of Doom 3? I miss the toilet scene in Doom 3 and also the intro from this demo kicks ass. It's a pity that most things doesn't work (like the sound that doesn't work for a big part in the intro movie) Is there a way to fix some of this problems?
Ow... and the shotgun is very cool too. Much more Doom 1-2 look-a-like and that's the way I want it I can name so many things that are better in this E3 demo compared to the final Doom 3 version, but then this post is going to be too long.
,SolidSnakeNL
I totally missed the E3 toilet scenne and the intro is very good also, the game is more creepy and the animations are smoother too !
Anyway try this if you want to convert D3 into D3E3...:
D3 Alpha Feel v1.0 part 1 of 2...:

D3 Alpha Feel v1.0 part 2 of 2...:

Enjoy !!!
Does this work with ATI gfx cards and Parallax Extreme 1.3? If so I'm downloading!!!
Yes, it should work without any problems on both ATI & NVidia gfx cards and also can be used in conjunction with Parallax Extreme v1.3 but you will have to rename the file zzz_alpha_models_textures_base.pk4 to zzz_alpha_models_textures_base.pk4.zip in Parallax Extreme and then copy ONLY the zzz_alpha_models_base.pk4 from the Enhaced_textures folder mod to Parallax Extreme folder mod, ok.
How do I get this mod to run under ROE? Also, can I use my already saved games and how?
~Thanks
It looks awesome, love the detail
