| Escape from Deimos (Episode 1) - File Description |
 |
Description: Escape from Deimos is a eight-map expansion mod for Doom3 and each map that I make will be released individually. Other features in the mod includes new monters, and a carry inventory system that allows the marine to carry additional medkits and other items.
-------------
Storyline:
-------------
You are a marine sent to investigate a strange signal coming from a facility near the Deimos Lab complex. As you and your comrades arrive at the area, you are quickly ambushed by a unknown force. Your comrades drop like flies and you quickly run out of firepower, leaving you with just a pistol. You escape the attack only to find yourself alone and defenseless. You must escape and find a way to return back to headquarters and warn UAC about the invasion or die trying.
-------------
Features:
-------------
This mod has three new controls for the inventory. You can set the keys though the main menu. Go to options>control>inventory. The inventory will be displayed on the lower right of the player's hud. You are only allowed to carry three items at a time. When picking up medkits, they are automatically stored if the player's health is equal or above 100%. Otherwise the player uses the medkit when he picks it up. Other items can be customized to be stored in the carry inventory. You can use the cursor to select what item is in the inventory slot.
Another feature is a improved monster reaction AI. Monsters will no longer attack its own kind if its rank is higher than the other. Instead monsters will attack its own kind if it gets hit by a monster, regardless of its rank. Monsters of the same type/class will not respond.
------------
Remark:
------------
This mod does not support Mac and Unix versions of Doom3. Please read "important.txt" for more information.

Known Bugs : None that I know of..
* How to launch *
You must install this map as a mod. There are too many modified files that will effect the oringinal Doom 3 maps. Move the 'Deimos' folder in your main doom3\ directory. Start up Doom3 and under mods choose Escape From Deimos. When the mod loads, select new game and choose your difficulty. Then you will be given a map selection screen. Choose Sigma Quadrant.
* Warning *
This map isn't for everyone. The theme of this map is non-stop killing and those who never played the oringinal Doom games may not feel right at home here. I've done everything I can to balance everything to make the gameplay enjoyable. Many beta testers have played this map and most of them never had any problems with the gameplay. I really suggest starting on the easy or medium difficulty setting when playing this map for the first time.
* Troubleshooting *
If you are having problems with the map selection menu, launch the map manually by bringing down the console by pressing alt+ctrl and ~ and set these command lines:
g_skill : values of 0 though 2 will set the difficulty skill. Please set it if you wish to play the map other than on medium skill.
To launch the map manually type map game/samuel/kaiser_3d3
* Using other previously released maps*
If you have downloaded kaiser_1d3 and kaiser_2d3, you can include them in this mod. Just move the pk4 files into the main deimos/ folder. Then you can select them in the map selection menu.

Enjoy the map.

---------------------------------
The mod Escape from Deimos isn't supported on Mac or Unix systems. However, the map itself can still be played without the mod.
Delete dsv6.pk4 since it contains the modified code. Start the map as normal.
Ignore some of the errors when you start the map.
The lack of the inventory system will have no effect on the gameplay it is just a feature.
For those who are interested in making it compatible, I've included the source code from the 1.3 sdk used to create some of the additional features like the inventory. You can find it under 'sources.zip' thats included in this file. If you don't see it, email me at svkaiser -AT- gmail -DOT- com
enjoy

neat mod but where the hell is the music?
so many doom 3 mods but no music
The only complaint I have is the scare factor, there's not much of one. The detail in the map was unbelievable. I've never seen that much detail in a map not made by ID! Great job.
this is one hell of a map.........great job.........i lke the fact that there were quite a few 'customised' enemies there........and the level selector is nice....great job...
probably the best yet, for DooM 3!
btw, why hasn't this been downloaded more? this is as good as and in some cases better, then stuff you'll find in iD's DooM 3 maps!
man wheres the damn music if u put music ill buy u guys some beer and donuts

Awesome! As usual, Kaiser's levels are among the best ever made. There appears to be a problem, however. Of the 4 maps that appear in the map selector, only 2 worked for me. T-Lab Complex and Sigma Quadrant work great. One map shows under construction, the other, Refueling Startion, reports ".proc not found" and "couldn't load maps/game/samuel/kaiser_2d3. Any ideas how this has occured? Thanks again for a great level.
Oh man.
It's amazing. Amazing map! I'm waiting for the others..!
Each one of your maps is better than the previous one - and that's hard to believe because the first 2 were awesome!
That last fight had me running around in circles!
Do the new features work in the old maps too? If so, I'll have to go back and replay T-Labs and Refueling Station just to experience them with the inventory feature.
I hope when you finish all of the maps in this series, you'll re-release it as a single downloadable mission pack so that finishing one map will automatically load the next map and continue the adventure. Can't wait for the next one!
Isn't that just some maps from Last Man Standing?
It is!
great map with intense gameplay reminiscent of the classic DooM, new monsters and an awesome final battle. Though I had some trouble getting this to work under 1.3.1, had to unpack one of the pk4's, but then the inventory didn't work. Never needed it though, died only at the end, which wasn't that surprising. 10/10
