Evacuation Protocol - File Description

Description:
Eight long weeks on the field... That's what they call Site1 these days. Everyone in the facility needs something to hang onto. For you it was the thought that you would actually return for some R&R after four weeks overtime. It's a long way from Marscity, let alone Earth, but it's a start.

You return to flickering lights, bad attitudes & a busted heating system. Home sweet home, except something didn't quite feel right. It was colder than usual, & there was a strange feel to the air. You shrugged this off with a nice warm shower before hitting the sack, it was just the lingering feeling of those god forsaken tunnels.

Finally asleep, your dreams weren't about the usual scantily clad women on the beaches of Earth. All you could see was death, everyone around you was dead. The screams of your fallen comrades filled your head. These dreams seemed so real. That unnatural feeling so strong, something was different.

Suddenly, you awake. It wasn't a dream.

Evacuation Protocol is an incredible map, a masterpiece in parts (imho) and really scary too. Some great mapping designs and not always the usual boring type of sp-maps that can often feature these days. This is class and i’d rate it 10/10

9.5/10. The only bugs I found was when I ran up a curtain set of stairs: It seemed to kind of stop me when I sprinted. Also, I noticed that when you see yourself in the intro, you can see that your face is, well, yeah.

Outstanding map, right up there with the best. In the same league as Thomas C, Kaiser, Quaker-X. Frightening, excellent use of camera and triggered and scripted events. I felt like I was playing a ID made doom 3 map. Just the right amount of ammo and health when you needed it. Must download. Two Thumbs Up! Rock Hmmm Donut!

 #5 - excellent - Posted by: ahab228 (Member) on 10-18-2005 at 15:13
great map! I give it a definite 10/10. Loved the triggered scenes and placement of monsters.

Hmm, this reminds me fom that scene in doom movie, now that the doom movie is out, they should make maps from it.

Great map! Nicely designed, long (but not boring), and challenging throughout. What I really liked about it was that you had to have good instinct for quickly switching to the best weapon for each type of enemy, because they often came out of nowhere and you didn't have time to think - just time to react. This was especially critical during some of the larger fights (and there were plenty throughout).

The intro was cool, and you really did feel like you were just waking up: a little groggy and trying to figure out where you were, what was going on, etc. - this made the whole thing seem a bit scarier. I really liked the way you "discover" the flashlight near the beginning, but the scary part was having to rely on it while you searched for weapons without knowing how many enemies were nearby. Good variation in the types of monsters throughout - you never knew what was coming next.

If there were any complaints, it's that the FPS took a hit at times, especially when opening doors or switching weapons. I'm running a pretty good system (Pentium 4 3.4GHz, 1GB RAM, Radeon X600), so I didn't expect to see the screen stuttering as much as I did. Also, there were quite a few misspellings and grammatical errors in the PDA messages, on the load screen, etc. Just a pet peeve of mine, but you'd think these technical guys working on Mars would have to master English to get a job with the UAC. big grin However, none of this detracted from the gameplay - and the gameplay was excellent.

I'd love to see a sequel to this map take place on the surface: maybe when the marine steps off the lift, he could fight to make it to a rescue ship or battle to Mars City. A series of maps of this quality would be a welcome addition to anyone's collection.

Excellent map. Definately one of the better ones I've played. The monster appearances were well done. Especially the Mancubi. The scare factor was pretty good. Very suspensful. I think maybe a few more well placed background voices and/or howling would be nice.

I played the map on what I think may have been an easier difficulty level, as I didn't die once. So I'll know if it's really up to par when I try a harder setting.

#11 - Long, but good. - Posted by: Harmony (Member) on 02-26-2006 at 14:42
Another very well done map. It's nice to see good maps, especially ones like this one. Loved it. However, there were a few areas that... felt kind of weird i.e: just need a wee bit of touching up. Other than that, once again; loved it.

10/10
