Description:
This interesting mod gives you a way to spawn teammates (sentry guns, armed marines) to help you cross the SP levels. Their AI is really compelling and they will engage the enemy at sight.

Among the list of changes, the most notable of them is that you can now safely have multiple teammates fighting on your sides wink

Good mod; I may use it myself as I'm not near from completing D3 and this damned game stresses me too much!

Introduction:

Note: This mod should work with the beta patch released by Id Software.

This mod allows you to have a companion for the game, with this you can call a Sentry Robot or a Marine that will follow and defend you for the entire game.

The Sentry Robots has a very good AI with almost no bugs, a total independent code that don’t cause any incompatibility with original game sentries, the sentries in this mod are a new game character from scratch.

The Marine is still in beta stage, the AI is very complex, the movement vectors are one piece of work, these vectors allow marine to strafe, get cover or use crouch/covered attacks, also the new “getOutOfWay” code is bug free and it work perfect, the follow code is fixed now is almost bug free and very stable.

Also I have fixed for all the Artificial Intelligences the “interleave” issue when you have more than one unit, also I have added a new code for the marines, now you can make two of them and they will work as a squad.

What’s New?:

New .DEF files:

With this most of conflicts/incompatibilities with original sentry robots are fixed, also the marines now get a much more bug free .def file with no problems.

New AI for all of the units:

The new marines AI code is one piece of work, the “getOutOfWay” code now work perfect, the marines will move when you push them, also the navigation system is new, the marines will move much better, they will cover, advance or strafe in combat, the new AI system is very stable and with a few bugs.

Finally fixed the “loop” issue in navigation code, is was a bug in “state_lead” code, the bug was pretty simply, some code was missing and the marine start bugging and stop moving and even could cause a game exit to main menu.

For the sentries, the new AI stop making conflict with the original one and it improves some aspects.

With this also the player value redefinition issue is fixed, I have created specific player values for each of the Artificial Intelligences.

No more console warnings, all console warnings are fixed, most of them where because redefinitions in the .def and .script files, all them are now fixed.

Now you can safely make more than one unit, if your system can handle it, also I have added a new code for the marines, now you can make two of them and they will work as a squad, it still has some bugs but it work good.

Instructions to install:

Open the .zip file with your favorite compressor, extract the folder GuardSentry(Keep directory structure), now you must have a GuardSentry folder with some .pk4 and .txt files, copy the folder to your Doom 3 folder, you must put it in the same place that is Doom3.exe

Now load Doom 3 and select mods menu, load GuardSentry mod, and load your save game.

"G": Calls a Sentry Robot.
"H”: Calls a Sentry Robot with a flashlight.
"I”: Calls a Marine with a machinegun.
"O”: Calls a Marine with a shotgun.

NOTE: THIS MOD CANT BE LOADED WITH ANY OTHER MOD, BEFORE LOADING, REMOVE FROM YOUR \BASE FOLDER ANY INSTALLED MOD, AND DON’T LOAD THIS MOD WITH ANY OTHER ALREADY LOADED OR IT WILL HANG THE GAME.

i hope you understand that you are ruining the game for yourself by playing through the first time using this mod. nice scripting/mod design but it is just so friggin' CHEAP!

I like this mod a lot. I've already completed Doom so This will add a new fun factor to it. I also have a suggestion, just for some cool action scrimmages to p***** the time. Go to the console (ctrl+alt+~) and use some of these codes to spawn enemies for your squad to fight with.

spawn monster_zombie_bernie


Those spawn a fat zombie with his intestines showing, the first boss Vagary, a Hellknight (oyu might want to have some experience before you take on one of these), and a flaming zombie (no, not gay, on fire).

Great work on this mod! I've been making my own little wars throughout the UAC facility for hours now, lol.Rock

Do it after you have beaten the game, or restart a game and just m*****acre zombies before the incident happens, while the employees just stand there oblivious to the little firefight that's going on.

Yeah is possible, to put this as entities in maps.

The AI includes a “path” system to help navigate and go into places where it normally would no cross.

I just made a test about it, in the map you find a quad of 3 marines and with them you must find a way to open a door, is a good show of team work….obviously the map is a “joke” and is not going to be released, but any way, is a good test.

This mod kicks *****, you need to somehow make it so the marines can climb ladders, open nearby doors (if you have sufficient access), jump across small gaps/damaged walkways, go through vents as well as crouch under obstacles and such...

I disagree with the comment that this mod necessarily "ruins the game". I myself am not an avid gamer, and am simply not very good at playing FPS games like Doom 3. Some levels are just too hard to be fun for me--and I don't play Doom 3 to be annoyed and frustrated by dying over and over. So, mods like this actually make it MORE fun for me.

I could also simply use "god" or "notarget" mode, which of course goes even farther than this mod...

I've played about an hour into doom3, and simply got very tired of the darkness and fire-on-site style, which is why i'm looking forward to the xbox version since i heard it may have co-op.

This is the next best thing, and i can actually stand to play the game more now.

How hard a game developer makes the game is totally arbitrary. I don't enjoy games when they're too difficult. It's just not fun when it's too difficult. This mod essentially adjusts the difficulty so that it's actually more fun for me. Plus it's less lonely. =)

How does this mod ruin the game when those who want it USE it to improve the game, and those who enjoy the solo-game-experience DON'T use it?

The game just has more options now.

Not bad, But a Few Minor Flaws Here and there, for one, There are No Blood Decals...or Decals of any kind...Whne they die, they drop their weapon but another duplicate of teh weapon is still in his hand...Then of course there are AI probs that you mentioned about...And finally, maybe you can tone down the times they say, moving in, and All Clear...It gets a Bit annoying...Maybe Add some customizable Options too for the Marines, Such as Different bodies, different Heads, and a Customizable Name...

cant use f5 to quicksave,just keeps spawning Marine with s.g.
Also having Nvidia 'twinscreen' problems on logging off after using this mod.
bots freeze in doorways,and one went into 'ragdoll' fit and flew around the screen until i shot him.......frame rate slowed after this for a while.Not a problem i have had as yet due to running on powerful enough set up to cope with the game.

Apart from that i love it! good work.

Any thoughts on suggestions though?

Wow this is a great mod! i love it, i played through the whole doom 3 single player with this mod! Beer! Beer! you guys should see if its possible to make allied comando zombies
ya know the chain gun ones tho there is no human textures for them it would take some skinning
