Welcome to Into Cerberon version 0.0.1, code-named "Coal". This is a "playable test" version of the Into Cerberon mod which aims to bring the classic gameplay of the original 6-degrees-of-freedom game, Descent, into the high-powered realm of Doom³.
This is most definitely a "playable test" release, and not at a level of a beta or even an alpha. There is no HUD, there are few pickups, the sounds for the guns don't work, there are no crazy death animations, the list goes on...
However, the game *does* "basically" work. You CAN fly around and shoot stuff, by yourself or on a multiplayer server. We decided to release now because we felt comfortable doing so; our general strategy with IC will be to release as often as we feel we can - anytime we have several coherent, reasonably functional features ready to ship.
There are many bugs or issues in this release that we are already aware of. Before reporting a bug, please check the topic called "0.0.1 (Coal) Released!" in the general discussion forum.
A Macintosh version of IC 0.0.1 Will be available shortly. A German translation of this document is also in the pipeline. Finally, Iceheart is presently running a server at 82.192.97.10; simply type "connect 82.192.97.10" in the console to join.

WHAT YOU CAN DO IN IC 0.0.1:
Fly around with functional 6DoF controls and shoot up walls and other players with lasers, quad lasers, the minigun, and missiles.
WHAT YOU CAN'T DO IN IC 0.0.1:
Pretty much anything else.
INSTALLING THE MOD
==================
To install, simply extract this ZIP file into your Doom3 folder. A new folder called 'IntoCerberon' should be created.
PLAYING THE MOD
===============
To play the mod, fire up Doom3 normally and then select 'Into Cerberon 0.0.1 (Coal)' from the mods menu. When Doom3 restarts, be sure to set up your graphics, sound, and control options.
A default configuration file has been included with standard WASD controls. Please note that the configuration menu has not been updated to incorporate the new IC controls. If you wish to use a different keymap, in order to play this mod properly, you will need to bind three new commands:
'_button5' for left roll
'_button6' for right roll
'_impulse41' for headlights toggle
To bind a coommand, pull down the console (press '~' in multiplayer) and type:
bind X '_button5'
where X is the key you wish to bind the control to.
The standard WASD movement keymap included uses:
bind q '_button5'
bind e '_button6'
bind f '_impulse41'
Two maps have been included in this release; they are not present in the multiplayer menu. The maps are called 'ic_pipeline', 'ic_whatever'. To change to one of them, type 'map X' where X is the map you wish to switch to. The game will automatically cycle between these two maps when nextmap is called.
The available weapons are 1-6. Players start with all weapons (there are no pickups at this time). Weapons 1-4 are lasers level 1-4, with level 4 being quadded as well. Weapon 6 is the minigun, and Weapon 5 is rockets. Only one weapon can be selected and fired at a time.
Be advised that this release retains a squareish 'bounding box' for the player, which means that if you are up against a wall, you may not be able to rotate. Back away from the wall to be able to turn.

Total comments: 8 | Last comment: 01-15-2006 at 17:42 I just tried it, very very major awesome. This is just like paying a modern version of the descent game. A good way to view the ship is to have pm_thirdperson set to 1, pm_thirdpersonrange to 600 and pm_thirdpersonheight to 200. This would give a nice view of the ship from behind. The camera view angle could be changed by the command pm_thirdpersonangle to (x) value (x=angle). The laser weapons look very good. I loved the music in the pipeleine map. Eagerly await the release of the completed mod. 
i'm using a Mac but i still gotta download this release right away and try it out! Looks superb from wot i've seen, downloading right now ! Awaiting the Mac release of IC 001 - thanks!! 
Played it a bit.
First, for those who can't play it: Use one of these console commands to play a game:
map ic_pipeline
map ic_whatever
Second, it plays OK. Seems a bit slower than that what I'm used to (especially the lasers and concs). BTW, no lag issues yet with the lasers? Seems every laser shot has it's own light.. Or is that the reason they travel so slowly? 
Third, I know that by default jumping for those WASD users is SPACEBAR (I'm a numpad user), and that jumping im Descent is going up. But it's weird that SPACE is up and C is down, kinda reverse action.. Anyway, that can be changed but nevertheless weird.
Fourth, nice job! Keep doing what ur doing, you're going the right way 
I'm really really liking it. Only thing I can say is I had some trouble navigating parts of whatever, but pipeline was great. Keep up the work, or else.

Looks absolutely awesome. Really captures the sort of feel I think the base Descent would of had with better graphics. The ship model looks great as well - I can't wait to get home and try this out.
Thanks so much for all your hard work guys, I can't wait to play this release - your mod is probably my most eagerly awaited for Doom3. Although the unrelated gameplay makes calling something like this a mod is a bit of a travesty, in any terms but literal ones.
