  You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!

Description:
Are you looking to give your Doom III gaming experience a little something extra? How a game looks is always important, and having the graphics tweaked can only accomplish great things! ...And this is why Dafama2K7 has made a return to D3Files with another updated graphics tweaking mod! The Relief Mapping technique has been mixed with the latest version of BH NG v1.1, and Dafama2K7 has also used some of the techniques from the UEQ and Extreme Quality mods to enhance this shader even more!

Relief Extreme Shaders will extract some textures from the game data pack and modify them to include depth information. All original files are mantained and you can quickly get back to your original Doom3 installation by deleting the extracted files.

Refer to the readme for more information.

Doom3 Relief Mapping
=====================

This modifcation will not damage your Doom3 installation. It will just extract some textures from the game data pack and modify them to include depth information. All original files are mantained and you can quickly get back to your original Doom3 installation by deleting the extracted files.

The modified Doom3 shader was created to test relief mapping technique with high-quality game art. Note, however, that some geometry will not look correct with relief mapping as the art for the game was not created for this effect. For correct use of the technique the edges of scene polygons should have no displacement (depth=0). But since the depth maps were created from the game normal maps this is not garranteeded.

For details about how relief mapping works refer to:

demo -> http://fabio.policarpo.nom.br/files/reliefmap3.zip
paper -> http://www.shadertech.com/contest/#reliefmapping
http://fabio.policarpo.nom.br/docs/ReliefMapping_I3D2005.pdf

To install this modification:

- from your Doom3 instalation path create folder doom3\base\glprogs\

- copy file interaction.vfp to folder Doom3\base\glprogs\

- drag and drop file doom3\base\pak004.pk4 into the tool normal2depth.exe

- wait for processing of all normal maps (this will create folder doom3\base\textures)

Include this in your Autoexec.cfg (already present in the mod)...:

seta r_testARBProgram "0" // def. 0
seta image_usePrecompressedTextures "0"
seta image_useCompression "0"

vid_Restart

If you installed in the base the glprogs and textures folders, to remove the modification and get back to original Doom3 installation:

- delete the folder doom3\base\glprogs
- delete the folder doom3\base\textures

You must select ULTRA QUALITY mode in order to have the calculated depth maps loaded (or else you will see no relief at all).

Relief mapping is slower than standard normal mapping. For this reason, we recommend going down to 640x480 or 800x600 in order to get better FPS through the game. Works great with a GeForce7800 card!

Enjoy,
Fabio Policapo (fabio.policarpo@gmail.com) and Manuel M. Oliveira (oliveira@inf.ufrgs.br)

Acknowledgements: The tool for creating depth maps from normal maps (normal2depth.exe) is based on a Poisson multigrid solver written by Carlos E. Scheidegger and Gustavo S. Neto.

There is also needed to be on the Doomconfig.cfg the next commands for shaders to run...:

image_usePrecompressedTextures "0"

image_useCompression "0"

if you typed this from the console in game you need to do this also to activate...:

vid_Restart

I didn't think full-shadows could be added to any other shader-based mod since they modify the same files...?

Because Fullshadows modifies only the sp maps files and not the shaders, so can be mixed, no problem ! smile

All of them are bigger mods and i fixed many small but molesting things.

Before i will release everyone i will put more features on them... stick out tongue

Dafama, I like your mods very very much, but there are tons of things that I don't like and since I love your work I would love them to tell, so you can improve your mods:

About this Relief Extreme Mod.
When I downloaded it, I get cfg files with a glprogs folder with a lot of stuff and 2 pk4 files, where one of the pk4 files has textures added to it and the same content that is also outside the pk4 files! So your mod isn't that organized.
The config files are coming in handy for the tweaks and needs, but I don't think you need DoomConfig and all that other configs you added to the mod (and all other mods from you). The only config file you need is autoexec.cfg. If you put ALL your tweaks, bindings and stuff that is really needed for your mods in it, then you only have 1 config file with everything you need.

Also you have a lot of different files like 100 interaction.vfp's and other stuff. As you said yourself in comments, you only need the interaction.vfp file. I tested this if it is true by first putting the pk4 files in my base folder and later on the interaction.vfp in the glprogs folder and the textures (extracted from the pk4 file). The result > the same. So you stated that you only need interaction.vfp (because that's the shader) for the highlights. And in this mod you need off course the textures. Why is it that you are putting 1000 of files with all your mods instead of only adding what's exactly needed?
For example > In this mod you only need 2 folders (glprogs and textures) and in the glprogs folder you only need 1 file (interaction.vfp). Outside these folders you need 2 files. The autoexec.cfg with ALL tweaks and the Readme of course. Tell me if I'm right and I'm suggesting you to make your mods much better organized. It's easier for yourself and especcialy for us too.

About the bugs in THIS mod:

1. You have converted too much textures to use with the relief mapping technique. This results in very weird things, like at the beginning when you leave the BioScan area and enters the room with the sentry. The floor is doing very weird in there. There are more places in the game that are screwed up, because of relief mapping, like the elevator!!! You can now see that the elevator is cutted into 2 parts. To fix the problems with the ground, I searched for the textures from that piece of ground and removed them. The problem was fixed by then, but the elevator can't be fixed by removing the textures (I removed the whole texture folder to test it), but this bug is in the interaction.vfp file itself.

2. Some shadows are not quite good. A lot of shadows (like on the plane at the beginning when you see a shot from above) are blocky and weird (most aren't). There are a lot of shadow glitches from objects. An example is if you are beginning in the game and getting out of the plane. When the cutscene turned in FPS view, turn around (180 degrees) and take sidesteps to the left and right. Watch closely what happens on the ground. This bug is found everywhere and is already in the Brilliant Highlights mod for a long time!!! and it is still not fixed frown

I hope I helped you and I hope that it isn't my PC. I have a 7600GT with the latest drivers, 2GB of RAM, AMD X2 Dual-Core 3800+, a very clean PC and a fresh installed copy of Doom 3, so the bugs are not caused by me!

 #11 - I have almost the same Pc config ! - 08-30-2007 at 00:39
