Repossessor - File Description

Description:
An interesting mod has been submitted for your Doom3 enjoyment! We have Repossessor, a fun choice of mods where you enter the game, with no weapons...sounds kind of difficult to win, eh? Well, instead of weapons, you have the ability to repossess a Demon, and have him/her/it fight your battles for you! These battles will take place in an Arena style map where your chice of monster will face off against an other monster, or monsters. There are several different gamemodes available to you, as well as an assortmaent of baddies to choose from; You will also have the option of customising this mod to suit your needs!
    The available gamemodes for you to chose from include:
    • Melee
      • All of the monsters will attack the Repossessed Monster.

    • Free for All
      • The Monsters will attack the nearest monster.

    • 2 / 3 / 4 Team
      • A Free For All game in which the monsters start as members of a team.

You will need to refer to the Developer's notes called "Customizing Section" for instructions on how to set up team games.

Some of the features of this mod include:
  • You can repossess only one monster at a time
  • There are no weapons, so you must have fists selected as the player weapon.
  • If the repossession was successful, you should be binded to the monster, slightly above and behind, like a 3rd person view.
  • Being binded to the monster means wherever it goes, you go..however, your view is not binded, feel free to take in the sites.
  • You are now in control of the monster and can order it to Attack, Move or Stop.
    • Attack
      • Place your crosshair on a monster you don't like and tap the Attack button; The targeted monster is now the enemy of the Repossessed Monster.

    • Move
      • Place the crosshair on a spot on the ground and tap the Attack button, your monster should move to that spot.

    • Stop
      • Place the crosshair on your Repossessed Monster and tap the AttackK button, your monster should stop moving. However, when this is done, the targeted monster is set to none.

    Refer to the readme for more information.

    Repossessor
    by 7:11 PM 6/17/2007
    June 2007
    ===========

    In this mod you are the Repossessor, a supernatural being with the ability to possess the possessed.

    This mod lets you take possession of a monster and use it to attack other monsters.
    You fight other monsters in skirmish battles in a arena map.
    Different types of games are available.
    Different sets of monsters may be chosen.
    You have some additional ability to customize the mod.

    ===========================================================

    INSTALLATION:

    Unzip d3_repossessor.zip. Place the "repossessor" folder into your Doom3 folder, not your Doom3\base folder.

    UNINSTALL:

    delete "repossessor" folder.

    ============

    LOADING THE MOD

    Start up Doom 3. Select MODS tab. Select Repossessor from list.

    loading map:
    Bring down console.
    Type in:

    map repo

    ===============

    Normal game operation

    (From now on, the repossessed monster is referred to as the Repo Mon).

    All game controls use only the ATTACK button.
    No weapons are available to the player, you must use your Repo Mon to fight.
    You begin the game by spawning onto an empty map.
    Tap the ATTACK button to spawn monsters onto the map.
    Choose a monster to repossess, place the crosshair on it and tap the ATTACK button. (see the Repossessing a Monster section).
    To start the battle, tap the ATTACK button, you may simultaneously attack a monster.
    Monsters start fighting until one or one team is left standing.

    The player never dies but has two different endings.
    The Repo Mon dies, the player is separated from it and can watch the battle until it ends.
    The Repo Mon wins.

    To play another battle, reload the map.
    It is suggested you bind a key for this like "bind m map repo".

    =====================

    Repossessing a Monster

    All Repo Mon controls use the ATTACK button.
    Controls available: REPOSSESS, ATTACK, MOVE, STOP.

    REPOSSESS
    You are allowed to only repossess one monster per battle.
    You must have fists selected as the player weapon.
    After the monsters have spawned in, you can walk around the map and survey the situation. (don't bump into any monsters).
    Choose a monster to repossess, place the crosshair on it and tap the ATTACK button.
    if the repossession was successful, you should be binded to the monster, slightly above and behind, like a 3rd person view.
    You will probably have to orient your view to see your Repo Mon.
    Being binded to the monster means wherever it goes, you go.
    Your view is not bound to the monster, you can look around wherever you want.
    Repo Mon's health is doubled.
    You are now in control of the monster and can order it to ATTACK, MOVE or STOP.

    ATTACK
    Place the crosshair on a monster and tap the ATTACK button.
    The targeted monster is now the enemy of the Repo Mon.
    The Repo Mon's attack behavior is governed by its AI.
    The Repo Mon can become distracted by attacks from other monsters and might start to attack them.
    Keep tapping the ATTACK button if your monster becomes distracted.
    When your monster's enemy is killed, you must target another enemy for it.

    MOVE
    Place the crosshair on a spot on the ground and tap the ATTACK button.
    Your monster should move to the spot.
    As in attacking, the monster sometimes gets distracted.

    STOP
    Place the crosshair on your Repo Mon and tap the ATTACK button.
    Your monster should stop moving, and its enemy is set to none.
    Useful it your monster starts wandering.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    You will find some monsters are harder to control than others.
    If they get distracted, keep tapping ATTACK or MOVE but do not hold down the button continously.

    Some custom enemies you might face are monsters riding other monsters.
    If you want to repossess them, always pick the rider, not the mount.

    ===================

    Customizing the mod

    The game files are unpacked and can be opened with a text editor like notepad or wordpad. You can change the number of monsters on a map or the chances of which type of monster spawns onto the map.

    *** YOU MUST SAVE THE FILE FOR THE CHANGES TO GO INTO EFFECT ***

    ================================================================

    SETTING UP NON-TEAM GAMES

    Open the "ai_player.script" file in the "script" folder.

    Near the top of the file you should see:

    --------------------------------------------------------

    // REPOSSESSOR GAME SETTINGS
    // You can change these numbers to play different games.

    #define GAME_TYPE 2
    #define MONSTER_SET 2
    #define MAX_MONSTERS 12

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Use these 3 values for non-team game setup.

    GAME_TYPE = the type of game you are going to play, 2 means "free for all".
    MONSTER_SET = the type of monsters which will spawn, 2 means "non-boss".
    MAX_MONSTERS = the number of monsters which will spawn. The limit is 32.

    ==================================================

    SETTING UP TEAM GAMES

    Open the "ai_player.script" file in the "script" folder.

    Near the top of the file you should see:

    -------------------------------------------------------

    // REPOSSESSOR GAME SETTINGS
    // You can change these numbers to play different games.

    #define GAME_TYPE 2
    #define MONSTER_SET 2
    #define MAX_MONSTERS 8

    #define MONSTER_SET_TEAM_A 5
    #define MAX_MONSTERS_TEAM_A 8

    #define MONSTER_SET_TEAM_B 15
    #define MAX_MONSTERS_TEAM_B 6

    #define MONSTER_SET_TEAM_C 14
    #define MAX_MONSTERS_TEAM_C 1

    #define MONSTER_SET_TEAM_D 20
    #define MAX_MONSTERS_TEAM_D 2

    -------------------------------------------------------

    For a team game change the GAME_TYPE (3 for 2 team, 4 for 3 team, 5 for 4 team)
    MONSTER_SET and MAX_MONSTERS are not used for team games.

    To set up team A for example:
    MONSTER_SET_TEAM_A is the monster spawn set for team A.
    MAX_MONSTERS_TEAM_A is the number of team A members which will spawn.

    Looking at the list above, you see:

    TEAM A is 8 zsecs.
    TEAM B is 6 imps.
    TEAM C is one hellnight.
    TEAM D is 2 revenants.

    ========================================================

    CHANGING A MONSTER'S CHANCES OF SPAWNING

    Still in the "ai_player.script" file, scroll down until you come to this section:

    ///////////////////////
    // MONSTER LOTTERY //
    ///////////////////////

    // Zombies
    mz1 = 3; // fat
    mz2 = 1; // fat w/wrench
    mz3 = 2; // jumpsuit
    mz4 = 2; // labcoat skinny
    mz5 = 2; // bald
    mz6 = 2; // flashlight
    mz7 = 2; // tshirt
    mz8 = 2; // neckstump
    mz9 = 2; // no jaw
    mz10 = 2; // fast
    mz11 = 2; // maint w/wrench
    mz12 = 2; // flaming
    mz13 = 2; // boney
    mz14 = 2; // morgue
    mz15 = 2; // chainsaw
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...

    ---------------------------------------

    The line "mz1 = 3" means monster zombie 1 (fat guy) has three chances of spawning. Set the number higher to give him more chances. Set it lower to give him less of a chance. Set the number to zero to give him no chance of spawning.

    =====================================================

    Notes

    ===================

    Originally this was a mod to replay the single player game from Doom3. You didn't have any weapons and you were supposed to go through the game repossessing monsters and using them to fight the other monsters. However, it was a pain to get the monsters to navigate through the cramped hallways and doors so I ended up scraping the mod. It was fun testing the mod by having battles on a big map, so I decided to expand on that and this file is the result.

    As you can tell from the map supplied, I can only make test maps. If you want to make one yourself, just add 32 spawn points named "info_player_deathmatch_1" to "info_player_deathmatch_32" and add AAS files for all the monsters.

    If you are getting the same monsters every time, trying waiting longer before you start the game.

    Yeah, it is cool sounding, I get everything to work, execpt every monster I take control of will not attack other monsters, even if I click on the enemy monster like 100 times, it still won't do anything. What is going on?

     #8 - Nice Mod - Posted by: Slimmo (Member) on 07-13-2007 at 07:15
    This mod is very great and funny to play.. but i would like some things you can add:

    1. Make this mod playable in muliplayer big grin
    2. More control over the monster.. like use w s a d and primary/secondary attack
    3. The last standing player/bot or team should win and then it starts a new match (to skip reloading the map all the time)
    4. More maps stick out tongue

    This is just some tips to you guys and i hope you atleast to something more to this wonderfull mod stick out tongue

     #9 - some more things - Posted by: Slimmo (Member) on 07-13-2007 at 07:53
    oh i got 3 more things to big grin

    5. you should be able to see your own health
    6. some way to gain more health if hurt.. maybe gain some health if you kill someone
    7. make the very small ones a little better (give them more hp or dmg) like cherub cant kill anyone else one on one exept another cherub ( if both as full health)
