Sabaoth New AI - File Description  


Description:

  • Are some of the demons too much for you to handle?
  • Are you constantly almost making it to the next level, only to be stopped?
  • Do you need a freind while battling all the baddies?



If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then this mod is something you should consider downloading; Even if you answered no, and you prefer to play solo, Sabaoth New AI may still be worth your download contemplation...not only will this mod furnish you with a demon buddy, it can also give you some added challenge with the spawning of some particularily nasty baddies!

    Some changes and features of this mod include:
  • AI:
    • new AI such that now it works as any other non-scripted monster
    • can become angry on sight
    • can chase you and choose melee/fire attacks accordingly to the enemy's distance and visibility
    • slow down and stops if he's enough close to the enemy
    • when he's damaged enough its engine start smoking and his speed is decreased

  • Materials/Skin:
    • new skin/material for burnaway effect

  • Friendly version:
    • All the good stuff of the hostile sabaoth
    • Can follow you
    • Can help you and becomes angry with your closest enemy first.
    • Stops moving if enough close
    • Go out of way if too close

INSTALLATION
//====================================

Just extract the zip file in you Doom3 folder.
A new folder called "SabaothNewAI" will be created.
Now run D3 load it as a mod. :)

SPAWNING THE NEW SABAOTH
//====================================

Use the following commands:

spawn monster_demon_sabaoth --> spawn an hostile sabaoth
spawn monster_demon_sabaoth_friend --> spawn a friendly sabaoth

CHANGES
//====================================

-> AI:
- new AI such that now it works as any other non-scripted monster
- can become angry on sight
- can chase you and choose melee/fire attacks accordingly to the enemy's distance and visibility
- slow down and stops if he's enough close to the enemy
- when he's damaged enough its engine start smoking and his speed is decreased
- when he's very damaged begins loosing blood
- plays death anim and burn away
- can be spawned*

*seems like there are some problems if it's spawned (he could not fall to ground)... I suggest you to spawn him only at the ground level.

-> Materials/Skin:
- new skin/material for burnaway effect

-> Def:
- Health increased to 4050
- Melee range decreased to 180

-> Friendly version:
- All the good stuff of the hostile sabaoth
- Can follow you
- Can help you and becomes angry with your closest enemy first.
- Stops moving if enough close
- Go out of way if too close
- Melee attack x2 damage
- His BFG bolts cannot hurt the player

USING THIS IN YOU MAP
//====================================

You can find monster_demon_sabaoth and monster_demon_sabaoth_friend in the editor...you know where :)
Just place them in you map where you want.

NOTE: sabaoth_friend becomes active as soon as the map start or it's spawed.
If you want him being already there but not active set the key/val
"self_activation" "0"
and trigger him when you need to activate it.

Hum...
I have to say that this new AI is really a little little sample of what you can find in the Fragging Free mod developer by me and Starfire.
This AI is just a simplified version of the FF's one.
Not to mention that you can can even BE a sabaoth... but that's another story.

I forgot to say that obviously both Sabaoths need aas_sabaoth to be compiled in the map where they are placed/spawned.

I hope no one tried to spawn a friendly Sabaoth in a map without aas_sabaoth being created becouse it wouldn't be able to follow you big grin

I released it just for fun and to allow che community using it in some projects, since someone was interested in this.
Just wait for a mod or a map where you have a sabaoth as a friend and you'll se ... smile

What do you do with a friendly sabaoth? I mean all the places in Doom 3 are so tight that i couldnt follow you and it would blast you to death with its BFG even tough it was trying to kill a monster... So its kinda useless function to put Friendly sabaoth...

Oh, oops. I just noticed that its BFG Wont hurt player, but still it cant move in tight spaces... Only place it would useful would be the Communications Transfer.

Hey guys, I released this mod for new future custom maps... and I did it just because someone asked me this.

So right now there are at least 2 maps or mods featuring this sabaoth that should be under construction.

I never tried it in vanilla D3 but I think you are right... It's too big big grin
I already have a player-like marine that can help you and has a much better AI than D3 ones (it can choose the right weapon depending on different factors l

I already have a player-like marine that can help you and has a much better AI than D3 ones (it can choose the right weapon depending on different factors like distance, enemy type and health ...) but it's part of another mod (FraggingFree), so may be I can released it as stand-alone mod after FF will be released.

So just wait wink

Any effort to make A.I. better is welcome of course, and really you made a good work with Sabaoth monster, and really, this monsters and other big monsters lack from default many things, so you added and this is good, and please, if you can, do it for other big monsters, please, so we can use them like the other not so big monsters !
