Description:
I think the name of this mod says it all...but, for those of you that want more...
Do you want D3 to be harder?
Do you think you would get more out of your D3 experience if there was more of a competition?
Would you be happy if I told you this mod delivers?
What we have here is a mod that will change Doom III enough to make it a little harder to kill all the baddies lurking around, and have you rely a little more on your uber skilz, then just merely spraying the general location of a baddie with a seemingly unending supply of ammo!
The Challenge Mod has several features to increase the level of...err...challenge in D3; How does it do this? Well, it will increase the power of nearly all weapons with a few player/item tweaks. What's the catch? Well the monster's attacks/attributes have also been pumped up to more closely match their originals from Doom. To offset this, the amount of ammo per clip has been greatly reduced. A word to the wise: make sure your weapon is always loaded, and make each shot count!
Some changes to note include:
- Pistol
- Clip size reduced
- Ffirerate increased
- Accuracy increased
- Damage increased
- A small flashlight has been added
- Shotgun
- Clip size reduced
- Firerate increased
- Accuracy greatly increased
- Damage decreased
- Machinegun
- Clip size reduced
- Firerate drastically increased
- Accuracy slightly decreased
- Damage increased
- Chaingun
- Clip size drastically increased
- Accuracy increased
- Dmage slightly increased

The damage that the monsters can inflict has also been changed, some are a bit more powerful, some are less, these changes better reflect those from Doom and Doom II. This is a must have for any gamer out there that wants to increase the fun-factor of their D3 gaming enjoyment!

1 -Introduction;
Greetings and salutations! XaviarCraig and RancidCube here with an interesting D3 mod for anyone out looking for a new challenge in Doom III! What exactly is "The Challenge Mod"? Well, simply put its a mod the increases the power of nearly all weapons with a few player/item tweaks. What's the catch? Well the monster's attacks/attributes have also been pumped up to more closely match their originals from Doom. Furthermore the ammo has been cut down heavily!
I already sense people asking "whats the point?" Well the point is to make the guns more effective while limiting the ammo to make doom 3 into more of a survival horror FPS than just a horror FPS. Yes it is scary as it is, but we believe that nothing is better at invoking fear than the icy feeling of running out of ammo in a game like doom! Its almost your life line so to speak and if it runs out at the wrong time, you are in for one hell of a messy fight!

Monsters: For the most part unchanged. Hit points of all monsters except zombies has been adjusted to resemble DOOM1+2 more, Some monsters have more now, some have less now. The attacks of all monsters outside zombies have been made more powerful to match the damage range DOOM1+2 monsters(They hit hard now!).

3 - Installation;
There should also be a file with this text file called "Challenge.pk4". If so, copy the entire directory to your root Doom III directory(EXA: C:\Games\Doom3\), run DOOM3.EXE, and the mod should be available on the mod menu.

Dont understnad,and also I dont understand why the monster and demons hp and damage changes arent listed in the readme.
Btw I played this for awhile and come to the conclusion that this is still **** easy if not easyer then the stock doom3 game beacause of the more powerfull weapons. |
XaviarCraig Joined: July 6th, 2007 Posts: 1 | Well, The drastically limited ammo with less health/armour in combination with pumped up monster hits makes it harder for most people.
The beta testers completely ran out of ammo more than once and were constantly stuck below 40 health and near ziltch armour.

and still managed to keep health above 90%
and the weapons are far to overpowering,
and since the player speed is fast, you can our manouver the monsters,
good ideas, badly implemented,

you probably just played 30 minutes worth and found it to frustratingly easy.
I won't give this mod a whirl because mods that change weaponry etc, is boring.. If i wanted that changed i'd do it myself really.... |

and with the fact you can out manouver anything, easy peasy
i dont know about armour, but on avg, 1 click out of med machine,[so i figure 90]
if i cant pick up pickups i know im full, no hud adds a bit of fearfactor to doom if some things absurdly easy |

TheDamned666 Joined: July 9th, 2007 Posts: 1 | Mods thats just modify the stats of entities in Doom 3 are a dime a dozen these days and many are usually over the top. They really do not offer much else then making powerhouses out of 2 or more weapons with no catches.
While this mod seems like that on the surface. You actually succeed in keeping a decent balance by cutting the ammo/health/armour down combined with giving more health the demons and beefing up their attacks(archviles and revenant notably) Over all its not a bad mod by my books and is actually quite fun.
However, the problem is you treated this like Doom 1/2 where most monsters that are alone can be taken down with a chainsaw due to a high pain chance. A prime example is in Doom 3 the revenant do not act the same at all, so methods effective before are likely to get you killed. To make matters worse you made all the demon's attacks nearly 3 times stronger than normal so close quarters combat is extremely dangerous, this combined with the fact that med kits only give you 5 or 15 makes some parts of D3 impossible with cheating if you have no ammo.
If you want to try keep people on their toes with ammo concerns, instead of increasing the damage so much and trying to reduce the ammo to match 4/5 the damage possible before, try just lightly increasing the weapon's power/accuracy and decreasing the ammo gradually. Your drastic changes work for the most part but it tends to put too much empathis on making the most out of every shot fired.
Lastly, you seemed to put the most work into the pistol. It is almost a perfect gun for all situations, although too powerful in the beginning, It seems to merge in perfectly later on, Why is this?
Overall: Your ideas are top notch, but you didnt put the effort that you should have into this mod. I hope your next release of this mod shows decent improvement: 6.5/10 |

Ice_Trey From: Joined: February 15th, 2005 Posts: 771 | hehe you and i have the same train of thought here, more and higher damage given by all the enemies in doom, in my modded stuff you die from one single hit by the wrench carried by 2 (if i rem correctly) zombies, and the zsec shotgun kills you with one blast if your close enough, makes for a more fun challenge once youve beaten it The Imp kills you with 2 hits, the mancubus kills you with 3 (and if he stomps you youre instant toast muhaha) etc, its fun as hell to try to play doom and survive with these conditions, i was gonna upload it but im sure this mod is basically what my mod is |
