VariLight Mod (V1.1) - File Description

Description:
Basically VariLight is based on Duct Tape ( http://ducttape.glenmurphy.com ), and whilst Duct Tape is an awesome mod in its own right, it lacks a few things. Firstly, the creator saw fit to reduce the size of the spotlight projected by the weapons, in comparison to previous versions of the mod. Secondly, he didn't apply it to the pistol, chaingun, plasma gun, BFG, etc; only Shotgun and Machinegun are given the capability. At the moment, this mod only features the machinegun and the shotgun as well, but with the added bonus of a red light/laser sight on the pistol, which should come in handy! smile

So differences between this and Duct Tape? The size of the light beams projected is enormously different. Whilst in Duct Tape, you'll always get a tight, focussed beam of light, not more than a couple of inches wide, on VariLight you'll get anywhere from your entire screen being lit up (by the Shotgun), to not more than three or so inches with the Machine Gun. The idea is, the accuracy of the gun dictates the field of vision given by the improved lighting, and the intensity of the light, as well as the light map itself varies between each weapons.

To install, copy the VariLight PK4 file into your Doom 3 base directory, and then start Doom as normal.

I like it I had that issue with the flashlight mod and this seems to be a neat alternative I like it. But I think the spotlight is a little TOO largewith the shotgun and too small with the machien gun nice concept but I do like the laser pointer! It just feels cooler now. and I am sure many people will moan about how this is "cheap" and not how we should play the game and what not but see iif they don't like it for the concept then don't use it. And let me have my fun. Keep at it!

Excellent mod, I never say the point of making awesome death animation sequences only to set it up so you're firing blind 1/2 the time and can't see them. Now if only someone could make a flashlight mod that was compatible with the rest of the gun mods out there.

(oh and on a side note to the lamers who complain incessantly about light mods, you only hold the flash light in one hand, as you do the pistol, only an #$%ing retard wouldn't hold both at the same time, and having a light on the guns is up to the user, thank you.)

Thank you. That's my point exactly. There's a few little things just like that that bug me about doom. The pistol SHOULD have a flashlight by default... It's weak, and it's the perfect trade-off. Extreme firepower and no light, or pathetic firepower and some light.

Either way, I'm not touching the mods until I've finished the game. They wanted it to be played this way, and it's doing a great job of scaring the crap out of me... So I'm playing the game this way.

Good mod. Please, continue with mods like this.
Doom3 is extremely stupid game in this aspect - today, soldiers have a flashlights on weapons, on shoulder, or on helmet. But according to this poor idea in Doom3, in 22nd century humans are unable to mount lights on guns (anyway, the whole complex is nonsence, just think - it is multi-billion-science station - and they dont have even a lights in corridors and rooms.) So thanks God at least for lights mounted onto weapons.

I do kinda agree but they did this to make the game scary not for realism
