| Zakyrus's High-Definition Sound MOD (0.5b) - File Description |
 |
NOTE: This file has become outdated and there's a newer / better version available. You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!
Description: Here it is atlast! Just what everyone has been waiting for and few have thought to create. I have enhanced the sound effects for all voices, cinematics, and much, much more! In all cinematics you can hear footsteps sounds, environment sounds, and everything else alot better. Even if you don't have an X-fi or Audigy card! Also, keep in mind that if you check out the sounds, you'll notice that some have been "replaced" with silence. Don't worry, the now "silent" sounds have taken and have been mixed into other sounds that are louder and can be heard better. This is a hacky way of doing it, but for those that can't have multiple sounds running at once it's a blessing. Besides, you still hear the same sounds(and more!) when you are supposed to anyways because it technically is still playing the same sounds. Trust me, no matter what sound card you have, you are going to like the effect.

Installation:
Simply put into your Doom3/base directory. If a pak008.pk4 already exists, rename it to pak009.pk4, or pak010.pk4 and so on.
FEATURES:
Examples:
(these are just a few examples, there are many, many more)
--ALL voices have some level of echo added(I did this depeding on the size of the area the npc is in at the time. I know Doom 3 does this on some aspect. However, this makes it sound 30 times better when in large areas; like the guy operating the crane in mc_underground, or Ross and Scotty's conversation a few rooms later.)
-- In Mars_City1 you can hear the guards' reaction to the flailing zombie in the infirmiry.
-- Imps won't scream EVERY time they throw a fireball. (YAY! THE ANNOYANCE IS GONE!)
--Zombie sound effects are replaced with Resident Evil 2 zombie sounds.
--Headless zombie sound effects have a gross gurgling sounds (thanks to my mic. and Mt. Dew!)
--Anytime you hear someone getting brutally torn apart, I mixed in monster sounds, monster attack sounds, bloodsplat sounds, and corpse being dropped on the ground.... and more screaming of course!
Examples of cinematic fixes:
--Mars City Underground the invasion cinematic sounds are so enhanced it scares myself!
--Enpro beginning Cinematic- You can hear all npc sounds so much better.
--Monorail "Turret guns online & offline" sounds volumes reduced (they were rediculously loud before)
Misc Glitch fixes:
--In Monorail Skybridge cinematic, the revenant shoots a rocket at a metal beam and the beam breaks BEFORE the rocket explodes, this has been fixed.
Bonus: (teaser feature of my Ultra-Scariness Mod)
-- Imp jumping animation cycle tweaked so it looks AWESOME when an imp jumps at you, see for yourself! It looks like a f**king velociraptor is trying to jump on you!
Please e-mail me at: Zakyrus_Omega@yahoo.com if you find any bugs, glitches, sounds that are rediculously loud or quiet, things I forgot to fix, comments, or any suggestions. Please don't send any flames, if you don't like it, then you don't have to play it. ENJOY!
Coming soon:
Will fix any bugs that come up
Add improvements needed
Remove any of Bertruger's repetitive comments(only ones that are neccessary to be there will stay!)
Coming (not so soon, but still soon):

One question, though: is it compatible with Trent Reznor's sound pack? As interesting as this looks, I would be loath to go back to the original sounds in the game just to employ the higher defiition sounds. However, this does seem as if it will make Doom 3 a new experience, and is thus worth a try.
"is it compatible with Trent Reznor's sound pack?"
It should have no compatability problems with Trent Reznor's Sound Pack. I only modded the VO files (character voices) and a few other sound files here such as ambient sounds. Monster and weapon sounds have been left alone for the most part so other mods of those types will work.
I went back and looked (yeah, I forgot what I modded already *slaps forhead*) and the only monster sounds modded or changed: zombies, headless zombies, and cherubs will no longer say "Mama!" (thank the gods, or ME for changing this) but have been replaced with evil baby laughter instead (quite scary!). The only weapon sounds changed were the hum and a few sounds of the plasma gun. So, other than that, this mod will have no compatability problems with other sound mods. The only thing that may happen, is one of the sound mod's sounds will "override" the other's and only one will play.... and that's a worst case scenario.
^^Thank you for the rapid response to my query. I'm downloading this today, and I know that it will help restore the enjoyable atmosphere of tension and trepidation that Doom 3 sadly no longer has for me.
Those footsteps are like Chinese water torture. If I hadn't uninstalled it I would've went insane.
Ok, will be fixed soon. Btw, um it would really help if you told WHICH footstep sounds so I can adjust it for version 1.1. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Never mind. I see the problem. The footsteps sounds were waaaaaay too loud. My bad. I will release an update later sometime today that will fix this and add more enhanced ambient sounds.
hehe interesting, i thought I was the only one interested in the SOUNDS of doom, 99,99 percent seems overly occupied with the graphics ^^
Ive also spent a LOT of time (like you) in creating/mixing new (and old sounds) into doom, theres litterary new sounds in all places, except the GREAT work by Chris Wrenna, to change those would be sacrilege imho, ive only stereofied some of them a little I might release it some day, or parts of it cuss at present its over 38 mb hehe **
Anyhow ill dl it and try it out =)
I played the first 3 levels with this. I have to say it's pretty cool. I enjoyed the echoing in the opening with the shuttle. However, sometimes you echoed when unnecceccary (i.e. The bioscan guy's voice should be muffled behind glass) and I some NPCs are missing (might be me, not sure) But sometimes the voices were better, also the computer was easier to hear. The headless zombie gurgle was awesome and creepy though. Keep up the good work 8)
Sorry to say this but it's going to be a little while longer before I can update the new version. I had to reformat my computer and lost alot of data. Fortunately, I backed up a day before wasn't set back too much(on the mod). It will be released hopefully soon. So far I have fixed alot of the voices and lowered the volume on all footstep sounds.
THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
