| Zakyrus's High-Definition Sound MOD (0.6b) - File Description |
 |
NOTE: This file has become outdated and there's a newer / better version available. You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!
Description: Fixes from 0.5b
*fixed the footsteps sounds
*reduced the amount of echo in sounds where it was too excessive (there are still a few that may need to be balanced)
*add muffled sound effect for the guy who does the bioscan
Description:
Here it is atlast! Just what everyone has been waiting for and few have thought to create. I have enhanced the sound effects for all voices, cinematics, and much, much more! In all cinematics you can hear footsteps sounds, environment sounds, and everything else alot better. Even if you don't have an X-fi or Audigy card! Also, keep in mind that if you check out the sounds, you'll notice that some have been "replaced" with silence. Don't worry, the now "silent" sounds have taken and have been mixed into other sounds that are louder and can be heard better. This is a hacky way of doing it, but for those that can't have multiple sounds running at once it's a blessing. Besides, you still hear the same sounds(and more!) when you are supposed to anyways because it technically is still playing the same sounds. Trust me, no matter what sound card you have, I hope you like the effect. Though, I will say that this still will sound best on an X-fi card.
Installation:
Simply put into your Doom3/base directory. If a pak008.pk4 already exists, rename it to pak009.pk4, or pak010.pk4 and so on.

FEATURES:
Examples:
(these are just a few examples, there are many, many more)
--ALL voices have some level of echo added(I did this depeding on the size of the area the npc is in at the time. I know Doom 3 does this on some aspect. However, this makes it sound 30 times better when in large areas; like the guy operating the crane in mc_underground, or Ross and Scotty's conversation a few rooms later.)
-- In Mars_City1 you can hear the guards' reaction to the flailing zombie in the infirmiry.
-- Imps won't scream EVERY time they throw a fireball. (YAY! THE ANNOYANCE IS GONE!)
--Zombie sound effects are replaced with Resident Evil 2 zombie sounds.
--Headless zombie sound effects have a gross gurgling sounds (thanks to my mic. and Mt. Dew!)
--Anytime you hear someone getting brutally torn apart, I mixed in monster sounds, monster attack sounds, bloodsplat sounds, and corpse being dropped on the ground.... and more screaming of course!
--Monorail "Turret guns online & offline" sounds volumes reduced (they were rediculously loud before)
Examples of cinematic fixes:
--Mars City Underground the invasion cinematic sounds are so enhanced it scares myself!
--Enpro beginning Cinematic- You can hear all npc sounds so much better.
Misc Glitch fixes:
--In Monorail Skybridge cinematic, the revenant shoots a rocket at a metal beam and the beam breaks BEFORE the rocket explodes, this has been fixed.
Bonus: (teaser feature of my Ultra-Scariness Mod)
-- Imp jumping animation cycle tweaked so it looks AWESOME when an imp jumps at you, see for yourself! It looks like a f**king velociraptor is trying to jump on you!
Please e-mail me at: Zakyrus_Omega@yahoo.com if you find any bugs, glitches, sounds that are rediculously loud or quiet, things I forgot to fix, comments, or any suggestions. The voices files themselves were changed so this is for english version only. Sorry.
Going to download now.
Looking foward to that Ultra Scariness mod (I always thought hearing random whispers like "I see you..." A child humming would have made me quit and never play again lol
"(I always thought hearing random whispers like "I see you..." A child humming would have made me quit and never play again lol"
I'm going to remember that one....
- The 'new' footsteps (also in the cutscenes) are annoying.
- The 'new' echo effects are annoying, especially with EAX enabled, because you get 2 echo effects at the same time.
- The bioscan guy has some kind of distortion effect in his voice (maybe because the volume is to loud)
- There's a BUG (only I may have experienced) where many people are disappeared (like the guy who gives you the PDA)
Maybe this MOD is a nice try for people who don't have an Audigy or X-Fi card with EAX.
I give it 5/10 for trying. btw... I look forward to your Ultra Scariness MOD.

Thanks for you input. (Although I never got this)
Also, I am trying to get this balanced for everyone but maybe that is impossible to get people that don't have EAX that echo effect. Mabye it's time to think about 2 mods. One for EAX the other not. Otherwise this is going to be a pain. On another note, the voice echo/distortion sounds for me are perfect and I'm using an X-fi card, so I'll have to do some experimenting again... I'll try and fix this in the next version.
Clarification of previous post:
I am going note to everyone that has EAX; You might get an echo-doubling effect if you have your EAX db set higher than 2.0. This WILL be fixed soon. However, for those that don't have EAX this mod won't have any problems. ( I think it's kind of ironic that I said the opposite in the mod's description. Oh well, remember kids: That's what you get when you ASSume something.) I hope to have all these problems and sound distortions fixed for X-fi users soon. (Within the week, hopefully)
I am posting this to let everyone know that after many hours of work and a 12-pack of Mt. Dew later, I am almost done reworking the problems. The bad news(for those that don't have EAX) is that the echo effects are removed. Sorry, I don't really know what to tell you except get a better card. The good news(for those that have EAX) the problem is removed and every voice file is now stereo and no longer mono. Also, I have added my material files with the mod because I forgot to before in the last update. This was supposed to have footsteps for different surface types (such as footstep_ceramic, or footstep_wood) and I *completely* spaced it out. Oh, well everyone makes mistakes. Especially when you stay up for extremely long periods of time hacking games. Anyways, I still need to rework ALL of the shader files so it may be a little while longer until the next release.... and doing it before I sleep is entirely out of the question.... On a final note, I will say that everything sounds awesome so far and should not have any problems on EAX compatable cards when I upload it. (Hopefully tomarrow)
I suggest to you to make also another version of this mod without the voices, for those have other languages version of Doom 3.
Because I like the idea of new sounds for steps in different surface, and new monster moans.

- Yeah, I'll get to that soon. Once I finish with the voices I'm going to make my own super scary monster sounds, realistic weapon sounds, enhanced ambient sounds, as well as making almost all sound effects stereo instead of mono. When I release that version, I'll also release an international version at the same time without the voices so everyone can use.
hey this file looks pretty cool,i will check it out
It's still different, The noise you gave to the bioscan guy I thought would sound really cool for the zsec.
BTW, When you start work on that scare mod, I won't mind writing a bunch of creepy lines or noises for it. (I love spooking myself out)
Sorry mate, but this makes the game sound nasty. Also, some characters that have cinematic roles don't appear and don't audeer.
Worry not. The newest version fixes all of that and will be up whenever filefront hosts it.
