DOOM Wad Station Contest - "Win the ULTIMATE Doom3 collection!" - Community

Bob Larkin, the owner of DOOM Wad Station has created a very special contest and opportunity, just for you, to win several cool prizes. How to enter? Easy as pie, just donate the site some cash thru PayPal; besides, the more you give, the more chance you'll have to win the bonus prize: a copy of Quake 4 in brand-new condition! The contest period will last until $200 are collected; once that amount is reached, a winner will be randomly picked from a biiiig hat.
4) What is included:
- A NEW copy of Doom3 ROE.
- A USED copy of Doom3 (in excellent condition)
- The three figurines pictured!
- Prima Strategy Guide for Doom3 (PC version)

10) Is a donation absolutely necessary?
Actually, YES! That is the whole point. For those who are lacking in cash, however, I will consider a donation of games for the games4sale area as a donation or actually, any video game related material as long as I approve it first. You will have to email me if you wish to donate in this fashion to get my approval!
11) Is anything else included?
Actually, YES! NOT pictured here is a used copy of the Ultimate Doom Trilogy with an extra cd which contains preview content for Doom3 (you won't find this just anywhere). The games on the cd are Ultimate Doom, Final Doom and Doom2.

and why would i want figurines?
You see, this would have been cool if it were offered back in 2004... but now, ..its just old..
I donate nothing really, unless i know where my money is going... how do i know the money i donate will go to a good cause and not to some teens "dream" computer...
you never know, the donations might end up justr being another way for that person to get money to buy a Sound card or pay for his mortage..
Anyways ............. My dog is being put down today, so i am not a happy camper.. |

Posts: 6 | Here's how you know the money isn't going into some teens "dream" computer. Because....
a.) I'm 44 years old
b.) I make a pretty good living and don't need the money for me
c.) The site DOES need the money because I don't think I should foot the whole bill for hosting and such all on my own
d.) I've been around for what? 7 or 8 years now and my site is well respected
e.) I don't need a video card. I have a really good one now
f. ) With almost 20 gigs of stuff to download, you would think it would be worth a donation. You can always put the games on ebay.
g.)It's DOOM wad station - what else would I offer?
h.)I hope the people who use the site regularly and contribute to the more than half a terabyte of bandwidth usage every month will help just because the site needs the money for hosting and they are getting something for their money - more stuff to download!

Posts: 207 | Guys he's just trying to drum up some support for his site and hopefully get a little bit back from the community. If everyone in the community that uses his site donated just one dollar, he'd have the money to run his site without having to dig into his own pocket book. People can be such cheap skates sometimes. You'll pay for a game, but when it comes to anything online you expect to get it 100% for free without being asked one single time to maybe help out a little bit.
Don't have the money to contribute? Fine, but don't sit there accusing him of using the money to buy a new computer for himself. And what, do you expect him to donate it to charity or something? He runs a site offering downloads for Doom, if you think about it for a couple seconds you'll realize he's using the donations to support his site!
Hell, I'll donate, you're hosting my team's mod and you've never once asked for a thing from me or us. There might be more great sites out there for the community to enjoy if everyone gave a little bit in return. |

Now to the rest of you who posted, Have you not even a shred of decency? #1 you are obviously a sceptical freak who assumes the worst and uses that as a cop out, and as far as your dog go's honestly i'm suprised he didn't commit suicide long before this, Living with a morbid S.0.B. such as yourself. #2 for posting your little tirade I think your the idiot. Not everyone only cares about themselves if I won I would turn around and give it to a friend who does not own the Doom 3, With your attitude though i'm sure you have no friends. Last but not least #5 you seem to be the stupidest of all (Quite a feat given your competition.) To type what you have with no reference as to what exactly you feel is bull**** just a vaige blanket statement, With this kind of diplomacy you should work in the U.S. government. |

Posts: 6 | I'm actually surprised that I've had some negative comments (one guy even took the time to email me and tell me how he felt). I spend a fair amount on hosting and thanks to donations from users was recently able to begin a gaming server for Doom3 and if I can increase the donations a little more then I'll add a Quake 4 server. And I'm not running those on my home computer - they are run by a company with really good servers and bandwidth. So, by contributing to Doom Wad Station, it allows me to give even MORE back. Just in the last few months I've been able to increase the amount of files I host to close to 20 gigabytes thanks to donations and have contracted for 10 gigs more which I'm hoping to fill up pretty quickly. Of course, every time I do this it costs more money but it also brings more visitors and more contributions which allows me to keep on doing more. It's no big conspiracy and I can't believe I have to defend why i'm doing it. Hell, the prize I'm giving away is easily worth $150 and I know there are people who wouldn't mind taking a chance at winning it for a few lousy dollars. |

Stuff like this isn't free, even though 90% of the community expects everything given to them for free. Some people spend a LOT of time giving to the community because they're passionate about what they do and hardly ever ask for anything in return. Others just want to crap all over them as soon as they ask for a hand. You people need to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself who you really are.
Kristis, aren't you the lead of Team Future? Yeah, I don't think I'll be downloading your mod if you ever release it. You should know better man.

He needs to receive donations, in order to maintain DoomWadStation well alive, and with as many new stuff as possible, with a good bandwidth, on a good server.
Do you really think that it costs nothing?!?
Do you really think that it's not a big deal to maintain such a site, with nearly 40 000 visitors per month, downloading a huge amount of files, with the consequences to use a huge bandwidth?!?
Please, stop to be morrons!!!
I know this man since many years, and I can affirm that he is honest.
His only goal is to offer the best possible site.
BUT HE NEEDS BUCKS for his site, to pay the server and to be able to host other sites !!!!
So, he had the idea to give something, and not the worst, to the greatest donator.

Anyway, it's obvious that you're doing your best to maintain one of the greatest sites dedicated to Doom.

So what's your problem? Somebody can donate a single dollar and have a shot at winning this prize. That's what a raffle is all about. Have you ever entered one where you get your money back? In this one, the community DOES get their money back - in the form of more downloads and game servers. So again, what is your problem? People are free to enter, or not. I provide a high quality site that eats up a good amount of cash and many sites use this method to pay their bills. Or perhaps you prefer the newdoom method or other sites where you get inundated with ads for all kinds of crap that helps them pay THEIR bills?
So I ask again - what is your major malfunction? You don't like the prize? Too bad. I'm glad you can afford all of this. I spent $150 getting it together. Perhaps you don't have $800 a year in costs for your mod. I do have that to keep my site online and the game server online. Get over it. |

Posts: 6 | #12 - how is this an auction? The higher bid doesn't win - except the Quake IV game but that's an additional prize - so if you want to say that is up to the highest bidder, that is fair, but the rest goes to anyone. |
