  Source Engine vs Doom 3 Engine - Articles

A website which I'm used to visiting frequently has posted an article comparing the two engines from a technical perspective. The following topics get covered:

- Lighting and Shadowing
- Character Models
- Artificial Intelligence
- Animation
- Physics
- Sound
- Networking
- System Spec
- Portability

It gives a good insight of strong and weaks points of both engines and if you were hesitating between modding for D3 or HL2, you would certainly find answers in there to help you make a decision. An interesting bit which I wasn't aware of is that D3 uses the CPU to create sounds instead of the sound card, meaning that whatever the quality of your sound card, D3 sounds the same!!
